THE PASTOR
Theodore R. Little, Jr. is a native of Wadesboro, NC. In 1965, he married Shirley T. Smith of Clarkton, NC. They have lived in Chesapeake, VA since 1969. They have one deceased son and two living daughters, Reverend Lisa M. Little of Chesapeake and Kelli J. Little of Stafford, VA.
His educational preparation includes a high school diploma, a bachelor, master, Advance Certificate in Educational Administration, and doctorate degree in the sciences, administration, and theology. He served as a teacher and principal in the Norfolk Public Schools, Norfolk, VA ; instructor in biology at Hampton University, and assistant professor of Physiology at Norfolk State University and chemistry at Tidewater Community College.
Little accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at West Deep Creek Baptist Church in August 1952. Most of his Christian experience has taken place in Norfolk and Chesapeake, VA. As a former member of First Baptist Church-Berkley, Norfolk, he served as: Sunday School teacher, usher, deacon, and president of Brotherhood Department of the Virginia Baptist State Convention and retreat leader.
Pastor Little served in two branches of the military. He joined the Delaware National Guard in 1958. He was part of the first group to integrate the 141st Ordnance Company. He served 6 years in the United States Marine Corps. He was the on-duty marine at the American Embassy in Saigon when it was bombed March 30, 1965.
As a minister, he served as banquet chair, education chair, secretary, first vice president, and 51st president of the Tidewater Metro Baptist Ministers' Conference of Virginia. He served as secretary and second vice moderator of the Norfolk Union Baptist Association. He coordinated the Tidewater Churchwide Institute and served as dean.
In the community, he served as a member, and president, of the Community Resource Network of Chesapeake (CRN), member of the FEMA board of directors, and a member of the Chesapeake Industrial Authority. He is currently a member of the advisory board of NOVA Chemicals, International.
He served as a professor at the Richmond Virginia Seminary, member of the board of trustees, and as its second president. He serves as secretary of the Theological Scholarship Foundation, and Chairman of the George B. Williams Scholarship Foundation. At Norfolk Theological Seminary and College, he served as Dean of Student Affairs, and professor of Homiletics.
Pastor Little accepted the call to the gospel ministry in 1979. He served as associate minister at First Baptist Church-Berkley, Norfolk, VA and assistant pastor of Riverview Baptist Church, Richmond, VA (1981-1983). He served as pastor of First Baptist Church-Crestwood, Chesapeake VA (1983-1984). Since 1985, he has served as pastor of the Dome of Canaan Baptist Church, Chesapeake, VA.
