OUR HISTORY
The Dome of Canaan began with Bible Study and Prayer during the months of January-February 1985. A group of like-minded Christians met in homes, community centers, and local churches during the formative months.
The Dome of Canaan organized as a Baptist congregation March 15, 1985. It was formally recognized in a dedicatory service in 1993 by the Baptist General Convention of Virginia.
The members moved into a 75-foot monolithic dome in June 1985. Construction on a second 100 foot geodesic dome began later. The first dome serves as a fellowship area and provides classroom spaces. The second dome houses the main sanctuary, with classrooms and an office complex on the perimeter. A fellowship/overflow area connects the two domes.
Our main purpose for existing is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ. He empowers by the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The members recognize the Sovereignty of God. We understand our responsibility to God and know that reward/rejection rests with God.
In March 1985, the congregation called Dr. Theodore R. Little, Jr. as pastor. Under his leadership, the congregation focuses on biblical preaching, biblical teaching, biblical equipping of saints for ministry, and reaching out to the community through a number of mission ministries.
